Understanding Medicare

Medicare is made up of 4 parts: A, B, C and D.

Part A:
Hospital Coverage

Part A covers hospitalization, skilled nursing facilities and other inpatient care.

Part B:
Medical Services

Part B covers doctor visits, lab tests and other outpatient services.

Part C:
Medicare Advantage

Part C is also known as "Medicare Advantage." These are private insurance plans that work with Original Medicare.

Part D:
Prescription Drugs

Part D is prescription drug coverage, which is not covered under Original Medicare.

Understanding Medicare Content

Original Medicare (PART A + PART B) won't cover all of your health insurance expenses.

It only covers about 80% of your healthcare bills, and you are responsible for the rest. With Original Medicare alone, you are responsible for 100% of your prescription drug costs.

Gaps in your Medicare coverage can be costly. Deductibles, copays and coinsurance not covered by Original Medicare could easily add up to thousands of dollars in expenses.

Blue Cross offers a choice of plans to help fill Medicare's "gaps" including our most popular option, Blue Advantage (PPO) — a PART C Medicare Advantage plan.

  • Statewide $0 monthly plan premium option
  • Combines PART A (Hospital Coverage), PART B (Medical Coverage) and PART D (Prescription Drug Coverage)
  • $0 drug deductible and copays starting as low as $0
  • Includes dental, vision, hearing, fitness and nurse hotline benefits
  • Extensive network across Alabama with over 90% of doctors, 100% of hospitals and 90% of pharmacies
